The View from Rainshadow Bay by Colleen Coble is the first of the Lavender Tides series. If you are not fully engaged by the first few pages, you should check into a nearby ER to see if you have a pulse! Coble has outdone herself with this one, twisting and turning this way and that with the storyline, mixing intrigue with romance quite seamlessly. At the end we are teased that more revelations will be forthcoming in the next segment of the story. However, this one is a complete story, no cliffhanger here. Excellent read.
Exciting, heart stopping storyline that had me wanting to keep reading even when I had to stop! The characters were so believable & I found myself either really loving them or horribly disliking them! This book would be a great read for teens on up. I can hardly wait for the next one in the series to come out! I absolutely loved this book so I gave it my highest rating.
With the first few sentences of the prologue, this book draws you into the story and you are not released until the last page. This is a mystery that will hold your attention throughout the book.After losing her husband in a climbing accident, Shauna McDade makes her living as a helicopter pilot to support her and her young son. She is visiting her one of her best friends, Clarence, and as she is leaving, he gives her a package to post. Shauna doesn't make it out of the driveway when her vehicle is shaken by an explosion and when she looks back, it's to see Clarence's cabin is engulfed in flames. Shortly thereafter, his wife is also found murdered. Soon, it is apparent someone is following Shauna. Who would kill her friends and what are they looking for? This book moves at a steady pace and has plenty of action along with several surprises. I loved the book, the characters and the mystery. I can't wait for the next book in this new series and I would recommend this book to anyone who like mysteries.I would like to thank the publishers and Netgalley.com for allowing me to read this ARC .
Great story, I know people say this a lot but I didn't want to put the book down. I am done with it but wish for more of the story. I want to be there for the next steps in the story.If you haven't been reading Colleen's books then you are in for a real treat. Get them all, you will love the stories and fall in love with the characters.
I bought this on impulse when it was a Kindle Daily Deal. Normally I wouldn't review books that just aren't my cup of tea, but I feel like I owe a warning to other people who may impulse-buy this thinking it will provide a hot romance (hahaha no) or a great plot (sorry) or moments of suspense (nope).This is also a Christian title. I enjoy Christian titles when they show deep character/integrity informed by religion (not happening in this book) or deep spirituality (no.) These characters are virtue-signalers. Which is a fine way to live, no judgment here, but doesn't make for a great reading experience.Finally, and this is petty, but it annoyed me: why does the hero, who has a job that pays 50-90 K at best (I looked it up because it was so distracting) own a million-dollar seaside property? Why the detailed HGTV-style descriptions of the houses and the gratuitous slagging on the shabby apartment of a murder victim (she was separated from her husband which is apparently not virtuous enough in this prosperity-gospel tale.)Finally, I knew who the bad guy was because when he first appeared, I had to go back several pages to see if he had been mentioned (no, he just got stuck in there randomly, probably ret-conned in late in editing).The book did keep my attention until the end, so that explains the 2 stars. Don't pay more than .99 and keep suspense expectations low.
Pulse-racing, suspenseful, riveting. In the first novel of her "A Lavender Tale" series, Coleen Coble brings a story riddled with secrets, plot twists, betrayal, intrigue, greed, murder and romance all set along the coastline of beautiful Washington state. The reader opens the cover to find they are dashing through fields of lavender chasing after a young woman in a heart-thumping race for her life. Coble's carefully developed characters draw you further into their lives and the reader finds they are fighting side by side with them as they seek to uncover the truth. A must read! I loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. It held me captive from start to finish.
I've read so many novels by this author, it is a rare thing to finish one feeling somewhat flat-lined, but....this one left me that way. The whole premise of the reason behind the series of murders was completely unrealistic. There were loose ends left dangling...the siblings? The "key" in the box, which had no real meaning. By the time the killer was revealed, I had forgotten exactly who he was to start with, there were so many characters in the novel. The description of the plot of book #2 of the series doesn't seem to have any follow-up to #1. The book just seemed a little disjointed. The helicopter pilot, former member of the Navy didn't seem to have her act together much of the time. But, I'm such a fan of Colleen Cobble, I won't hesitate to try the next book of the series, eventually.
I really wanted to like this book. I purchased it based on an ad that stated "if you like Nora Roberts you will love Colleen Coble". That is so not true. Two entirely different authors and not even close to each other in style. To me the writing was choppy and did not flow. The story line was meh. I am sorry I spent $8 on it. Read a sample before you buy this book.
