This is a fairly straight-forward factual book, much like Encyclopedia reading. It is informative and brief. Very concise on politics, history, geography and economy. I trust the information provided fairly well - it seems accurate, but it was not academically sourced or footnoted. The author does recommend a few works, but doesn't use traditional academic format. Overall if you are looking for a primer to get some background on the region I would recommend the book for that purpose. Don't expected to be overjoyed, just informed.
A classic in this much neglected and very important area suddenly thrust back into the news.
