I've read all three books in the series and was impressed with the lack of errors, very good story line and the fact the author did not use up a significant portion of the follow-on books to "catch up" the reader of what transpired in the previous books. However, there was a quirk in the authors writing that was present in books 1 and 2 and by the time I got through with this book I was very irritated. The author seems to have this "fixation" on described a character's emotional response by described how their brow furrowed. Its like he just can't state the character emotional state such as worried, upset, mad, etc. A couple of times O.K., but he seems to use it just too frequently for my taste. That said, the entire series is a very good read and I would recommend it to any SiFi aficionado. To get the most out of this book one really needs to read the first two of the series.
I struggle to find fantasy or sci-fi series that capture my attention after the 1st book. Most take a quick nosedive by the 2nd or 3rd book.However, I love this series! The 1st book was exceptional. The 2nd changed the plot setting entirely. The 3rd kept it going. The best part is that the suspense and gaps in the story are still there. Key pieces continue to flow, but we're left needing more. Who is this invading force? How is it sentient? Who created it? NEED MORE DETAILS!I'm very impressed by this series, and I can't wait to finish the last books. It's an overall fun sci-fi series that includes space, long distance travel, warfare, high tech weapons and other systems, etc.
Despite the not so subtle nods to Star Trek and Aliens, I loved the 1st two books. Predictable story but action packed and with mostly likable characters (sorry Lenora). Book 3 is more of the same (all good) right up to the final encounter with the aliens aboard the alpha ship. Another nod to the "I Robot" movie. The ending was anticlimactic to put it mildly. We learn nothing new about the invading force or their reason for attacking the colony.
An excellent sequel that is essentially part 2 of the Vemus War and sees the New Earth colony threatened by even more Vemus. It will take Connor, his friends and the CDF (Colonial Defence Force) to make huge sacrifices for the greater good of the colonies survival and that of humanity. Legacy was a great addition to the series with lots of tense moments, particularly at the end, and the battles and action were well described. Love the series and the characters - a recommended read for sci-fi fans :)
I am going to agree with many of the negative reviews found here. This book is not bad, but its not great either. Its basically one long battle, which seems cool, but does not bring anything new to the series and feels like an extension of book 2.Fortunatly book 3 seems to be a good change so far so I would still recommend you read this.
The books are good, although not ideally a trilogy probably two books as the first one was an introduction. Book 2 and 3 make up for book 1. The characterisation was a bit one dimensional throughout, the dialogue was stilted throughout. The author has a pretty good idea of what he needs to say in the story but has issues with dialogue between characters. He should consult with another writer about that issue or write stories that are essentially 'narrated'.
Loved the concept. Found most of the characters realistic enough to not interfere with the story. Editing is well done. There is enough action to keep the story moving, but some character building too. I wished the enemy had used more strategy, and i wished there was more explanation of the enemy's thought processes, but the lack of that didn't detract. The book's not meant to be an often re-read classic, it's fun, fast sci-fi/war/space stuff!
FIVE stars for this book. Liked the writing and the characters were developed nicely. They grew up thru the series of three books .The stories had plenty of action and hard fighting. I would recommend this book to all readers of space opera and more. Thanks , waiting for the next book.
