This is a good book for learning the basics quickly. It has exercises after each lesson to let your translate from English to Spanish. This would've been an awesome tool to have while I was taking Spanish classes. I've learned more from this little book in a week than I had from my Spanish class. It breaks everything down easily, and shows you have to put sentences together, and interpret meaning. In the beginning it has a pronunciation list of each letter, which I found very helpful. I hate it when I pronounce a word wrong. For the price, you can't go wrong.

This little book is great for beginners, and would also be good for a child. It is basic, simple, easy to follow, and pretty comprehensive. I am currently taking an audio course in Spanish, and this book adds a visual dimension that I obviously don’t get with audio, providing another channel of reinforcement. It contains a pronunciation guide that explains how to pronounce letters that deviate from how they are pronounced in English. A “handy word guide” is included which provides vocabulary and simple phrases used in common situations. It also lists in Spanish: numbers, days of week, months of year, seasons, family members, colors, and body parts, all good to know. It then goes into a “grammar” section where “ar”, “er”, and “ir” verbs are explored, including how to use the verb with different pronouns, and different tenses. If you study these long enough, you will notice the pattern and begin to apply the principles on your own with other verbs. Finally, there is a Spanish-English vocabulary section which makes for a handy reference. The book is a good place to start for those with no background in Spanish, or as a brush-up for those who may have studied Spanish at one time, but have forgotten most of it.

The book is worth owning / using. However, in my copy the print quality is quite poor. Most pages are over-inked making many small print words with questionable letters requiring a magnifying glass to read and guess at because of smeared letters. Printed in US in case you wondered.If you had to carry one Spanish cheat book, this touches about every subject possible, including FULL conjugation of AR-ER-IR regular verbs. (if I just could read them) Arghh

I wanted to improve my Spanish (which is very basic) so I can better communicate with my cleaning lady. But I couldn't learn any verbs from this book as it just doesn't provide the "tu" form - ("informal singular you"). Am I supposed to say "usted" (formal you) to her? She herself says "tu" to me. :) This book doesn't even list "tu" in the vocabulary section, like it doesn't exist. And it doesn't have "vu" (plural informal you) either. OK, so it may work for tourists. But what if you are a traveling student who wants to chat with young locals like yourself?.. Completely useless to me. Nouns, I can learn with Google. Frustrated. :(

This book will get you speaking Spanish. You will learn the basics of the language, but you won't learn the actual grammar rules and stuff like that. I think this would be most beneficial for someone who wanted to learn basic conversation Spanish that would help them as a tourist. I don't think it would be beneficial if your goal was reading, writing, and complete fluency in Spanish. But it is a very good book and will get you started.

The author's approach is completely immersive, meaning that you don't get to read your native language's translation of the words. You get to see pictures, and figure out how to pronounce the words (with all the accents). If you're not already familiar with the way the letters, accents, and the like are pronounced...this book will not be of much use to you until you've mastered basic Spanish.

Excellent and easy book to help you learn Spanish phrases.I actually used this book to help me learn phrases for college Spanish many years ago. I also used the same book, but for French. The book has 4 drawings on each page with the expression on it. Very clever.The book is about the size of a small pocket novel and is easy to carry with you. It really was the best simple book I have ever found and at this price I highly recommend it. I supplemented it with the authors other book, but I have not read it yet. Enjoy![...]Thank you! :))

Right from the beginning, this book leads the reader into speaking conversational Spanish. It uses everyday Spanish words and phrases that look like -- and sound like -- their English equivalents. For example, garage in English is the same in Spanish. Hotel is also the same in both languages.The book also has a traveler's word list, pronunciation guide and grammar section. After the first lesson you will know how to state "I'm going to..." and to ask "Are you going to...?"
