About the Author
Chris Brooks is a guitarist, educator and recording artist based in Sydney, Australia. What began as an obsession with 80s high octane lead guitar has, well, not changed at all. A former student of the Australian Institute of Music, Brooks exhibited an early penchant for guitar-driven music, whether it was the sideman shredding of Kee Marcello and Brett Garsed, or the solo-artist career paths of Vinnie Moore, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen. The obligatory eight-hour practice sessions would be fuelled by lesson material from Hot Licks and REH videos as Brooks followed the trajectory to making his own guitar music and instructional content. Releasing two solo albums, 2002's The Master Plan and 2011's The Axis of All Things, Chris has received acclaim from print and online media worldwide, including Japan where The Master Plan was included in Young Guitar magazine's 500 Essential Guitar Albums special issue, and back home in Australia where Australian Guitar magazine rated him one of the top underground guitarists. Brooks has also recorded with Yngwie Malmsteen's former vocalist Mark Boals, Australian melodic metal band LORD, toured with major label band Feeding the Addiction, and appeared on compilation albums for labels including Frontiers (Europe), Marquee Inc. (Japan) and Liquid Note Records (UK). This Book is the Best Guitar Book I bought Out of all my Guitar Books and I've been playing Guitar since 1985. The Book Describes everything you need to know on speed picking, like holding the pick certain ways that I didn't know before. I'm only on the first Chapter because I have other Books from Joseph Alexander that I'm reading and studying at the same time. The Techniques it shows you are things I never knew before. I taught myself how to play guitar and this book shows me all about how to speed pick. I recommend this book to anyone who never learned how to speed pick or even if you can speed pick It shows the Pro Way as described in the book meaning Yngwie Malmsteen's way or "The Yng Way"THANKS! This is a Great Book for a small price.

I've been a fan of Chris Brooks's video courses and was really happy that he wrote this book. It's a great addition to the literature and actually explains the physical motions needed for playing fast in this style. Really practical exercises, a lot of examples and detailed explanations + diagrams. If you want to play better, faster and more relaxed, get this book. It's a worthwhile investment!
It’s obvious that this was written with the utmost care. I can’t imagine that one could ever find a more detailed book about picking techniques, and there’s certainly no way one could get a better value than this. This is without a doubt the most useful guitar book I’ve ever had the chance to read. If you’re serious about improving your mechanics, this is a must-buy.
Picked up this book in November. I find trying to change up your picking style after years of doing it a certain way a huge challenge. This book makes doing so easy. Lots of exercises, and an online Facebook community for support. Has to be one of the best buy’s I’ve made last year as far as music education goes. And Chris Brook is a really good teacher, with online resources available. And the Facebook group, if you ask Chris a question, he will answer. How many music instructor/ book writers you know who do that? Not many! Thanks Chris for putting together this valuable learning tool!!!!!

The material is presented in a clear and easy to understand format. The book is full of examples written out in music notation and tablature. Additionally, you get the corresponding audio and video.
