This book is solidly assembled!! Color graphics are sharp, relevant, instructive, and keyed precisely to the point the author is making. The text reads very well; it flows smoothly (which, for a tech book says A LOT!), it informs and educates in clear and succinct prose. The depth and detail that is covered, while based on Windows 7, is broad and goes into great detail to flush out the topic completely, for this level. The worst part of this book is not the writer or editor's fault, it is Microsoft and the publisher's fault. The test is no longer being used, or even upgraded to Windows 10, so the book will not be revised and re-issued. That is a pure shame because the book is such a great accomplishment. My only regret is that I did not buy it 4 years earlier when it was first marketed. Nice job!
This was the only book I used to study for and pass the MTA: Windows OS exam. As with all the other books in the Essentials series, you can expect a very high quality, full color book with glossy white pages and solid binding. Also, all exam topics were thoroughly covered and at no point during the exam did I feel surprised or unprepared. If your goal is to pass the MTA: Windows OS exam then this is all you will need.
I would like to add my name to the list of people who purchased this book, studied it, and then went to take the exam and passed it.This book is a great book for anyone getting started in the IT field or for someone who wants to know how to perform some of the basic tasks that any computer user would like to know how to do. The exercises and review questions at the end of each chapter really help to solidify the content of the book and reinforce the required knowledge that is needed to pass the exam.
Very informative and a great book that was easily read. My issue was the test did not have a single thing covered in the book. The questions on the test dealt with similar information and if you are in the field this book is a great read to both prepare for the tests and to sharpen your mind and skills. If we do not use it we tend to lose it, this helped bring up some of the older knowledge and gave me far more confidence going into the test.
I used this book for a study guide for the MTA 98-349 and passed on the first try. The material is explained in a easy to grasp terms so the book makes for easy reading. The book not only provides enough detail to pass the exam, but also gives pointers and instruction on using Windows 7 in real world settings. This book is not only useful to those looking to gain an MTA, but also users new to windows 7 or power users that want to get the most out of windows 7 and its features.
I needed this for my college course. It came quickly and was exactly what I needed. I had planned on selling it back to the college at the end of the quarter, but it has so much great information in it that I am going to keep it for future reference!
I enjoyed this book however I would not use it as the only tool. The test correlated with this book is basic. This book gives a basic overview. I only wish some online practice test would have been included. Passed the test with this book and quizlet study only studied for two weeks. Wish I would have read cover to cover. I have gone back to it a few times since the test pretty helpful.
Some were hesitant on using this book as your only study guide. If you have any reasonable amount of experience using Windows 7 and you read this entire book, there's a good chance you will be fully prepared for the exam (at least to get a passing grade). There are sections in here that aren't necessary, but still interesting in at least some sense.
